FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are synthetic eyelashes that are bonded to your natural eyelashes to make your lashes look seamlessly longer, fuller, and/or curlier. There are many different types of eyelash extensions that vary in diameter, curls, lengths, and colors to customize eyelash extension styles.

What are eyelash extensions made of?

Both silk and faux mink eyelash extensions are synthetic eyelashes that are made of PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) which is a high quality polymer, and a type of polyester. This material is heated and then moulded to create the lash extension. It is very light, soft but strong and it mimics the look and feel of an eyelash in varying diameters (thicknesses), curl, and length

How are eyelash extensions applied?

At Anne Artistry, a multi-certified and experienced Eyelash Extension Artist uses a medical-grade adhesive to apply the eyelash extension (Classic) or a handmade fan (Volume) onto the base of a single, properly isolated natural lash. This is done throughout the lash line, to achieve a desired look of fullness, length, more curl or combinations of the above.

Do you carry different types of eyelash extensions?

Yes we do! We carry premium quality eyelash extensions that vary in thickness, lengths, colours, and different tapers to suit both the health of your lashes and to create the style that fits you best.

What is the difference between Classic, Volume, and Megavolume sets?

Classic Extensions (TOP) - attaching one eyelash extension to one natural lash to create length, curl, and a thicker looking set of lashes, similar to the look of mascara. Volume Extensions (BOTTOM) - using the skillfull Russian Volume technique, a handmade fan of lightweight eyelash extensions are created and then attached to a properly isolated NL to create a full, soft, and fluffy look similar to falsies or strip lashes. Fans can consist anywhere from 2 extensions (2 dimension=2D) to 6 extensions (6D) depending on the fullness desired. Hybrid Extensions (MIDDLE) - The best of both worlds! The combination of both classic and Russian Volume technique results in this in-between look. ***As an artist can only work with the size of their canvas, I can only provide you with eyelash sizes/styles that are suitable for the health of your natural eyelashes. Your eyelash health is my top concern and as such, results will vary. We can work together to create looks that you'll love that won't damage the integrity of your lashes.***

How long do eyelash extensions take?

Length of service depends on a variety of factors. Type of service, amount of natural lashes, direction of natural lashes (criss crossed vs. straight), eyelash gaps, and the ability to lay still, all contribute to the length of the service. Please refer to the services & pricing page for more information on the duration and details of your appointment. Please ensure you have arranged for enough time to cover the length of the appointment. At Anne Artistry, we pride ourselves in producing quality work and take our time to give you amazing lashes that are bonded correctly to ensure the best retention and maximum comfort.

If proper application procedures and aftercare instructions are followed, eyelash extensions should not damage your natural eyelashes. Our certified Eyelash Specialist’s greatest priority is the health of your eyelashes and as such we exceed guidelines that adhere to Alberta Health regulations. Our Eyelash Specialist will go over aftercare instructions with you at your appointment to ensure you do your part as a client to maintain the health of your eyelashes during eyelash extension wear.

How long do they last?

The longevity of your Eyelash Extensions depends on a variety of factors such as lash growth cycle, personal lifestyle, and proper eyelash aftercare. Clients are recommended to schedule Fills within the 2-4 week range to maintain your Eyelash Extensions. If you choose not to maintain your lash extensions, with proper aftercare, you can expect your lash extensions to last anywhere from 5-8 weeks as they grow out and come off with your natural lashes without any damage at all to your natural lash cycle.

What is a Touch Up ? What is a Fill?

At a Touch Up or Fill appointment, the Eyelash Specialist removes grown out extensions and applies extensions closer to the base of new eyelash growth for a beautiful, complete set. Touch Up's and Fills are shorter in duration than Full Sets and we recommend clients schedule their Fill within 2-4 weeks of the last appointment. Touch Up's and Fills scheduled after 4 weeks will be required to adhere to Full Set pricing.

Anne Artistry highly recommends clients avoid wearing mascara with extensions as it makes cleansing more difficult and may cause premature extension fallout. If you notice excessive eyelash extension loss within the first 3 days of your appointment, please contact Anne Artistry to schedule a complimentary fill appointment, where we can address retention issues and work together to make your extensions last.

Fills should be scheduled within 2-4 weeks to maintain a full, lush lash line. Fills scheduled after 4 weeks will be required to adhere to Full Set pricing.

Do eyelash extensions make my lashes fall out?

Anne Artistry values the health of your lashes and uses appropriate weight of extensions so not to overload your natural lashes. If proper aftercare instructions are followed, eyelash extensions should not contribute to premature eyelash shedding.

What is lash shedding season?

As the seasons change, we may notice our hair cycles change in response to varying hormones changes, stress, or changes in sunlight (Vitamin D). At periodic times throughout the year, you may notice more hair shedding. As our bodies experience stress, hormonal changes, or due to the natural hair cycles, we may appear to shed more during certain times than others. Rest assured, this will pass in about 4-6 weeks.
What you can do as a client is if you notice more lash loss earlier than usual, you can reschedule your fill online earlier, or contact me directly for some available times. With a little patience, your cycle will return to its growing state. There will be individual differences in shedding but have faith that this is a natural part of our hair growth cycle and it will pass.
